Michael J. Cavaliere

Michael Cavaliere works with clients in the technical fields of mechanical and biomedical engineering, focusing on medical device technology.  His practice encompasses several areas of intellectual property law, including U.S. and foreign patent prosecution as well as conducting right-to-use and patentability investigations. Mike relies on his experiences and adaptability to assist clients with their complex inventions while always keeping an eye on their business goals.

Prior to law school, Mike gained practical experience working for the U.S. Navy as a mechanical engineer, where he provided design, testing, and performance expertise of HVAC systems across the entire Naval fleet. Mike performed a broad range of support, from the review and revision of technical manuals to the onboard inspections and assessments of various equipment and systems. From these experiences, Mike garnered an interest in the intersection of technology and the law; he knew he wanted to be at the frontline of innovation.

During law school, he gained patent and trademark prosecution experience at an intellectual property law firm where he conducted patentability and validity searches, responded to Office Action rejections, and drafted cease-and-desist letters for potential infringers. In addition, Mike was tasked with drafting trademark license agreements; contracts for consultants, independent contractors, and end user license agreements; and IP legal research for presentation to clients. He further honed his research and writing skills as staff member of the New York International Law Review.
