PROFESSIONALS

Johann Cho

Johann is an associate at the firm whose practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution in the chemical, materials science, and mechanical arts. His multidisciplinary background encompasses mechanical engineering, advanced materials, manufacturing processes, and semiconductor technologies, supported by more than a decade of industrial research and development experience.

Prior to law school, Johann worked at a global technology company, where he served as a Principal Research Engineer leading research and development in advanced materials and semiconductor technologies. His technical expertise includes materials development and characterization, thin-film deposition, and large-scale ceramic processing, including particle surface modification, dispersion, and sintering. He is a named inventor on 12 Korean and U.S. patents relating to materials and manufacturing technologies.

Johann earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Imperial College London, where his research focused on the processing and characterization of inorganic matrix composites containing carbon nanotubes. His research encompassed carbon nanotube synthesis, surface modification and functionalization, and interactions with ceramic nanoparticles. He has authored or co-authored 32 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Johann received his J.D. from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. During law school, he served as a student attorney in the Intellectual Property Law Clinic, gaining experience in patentability assessments, patent prosecution strategy, invalidity analysis, and freedom-to-operate matters.
