PROFESSIONALS

Robert B. Hander

Experienced

Having spent his entire career litigating, Bob has been involved in all phases of litigation from pre-suit investigation through trial, post-trial motion practice, and appeal. Bob’s experience has made him particularly adept at delving into the details of complicated cases to develop sound and winning legal positions.  Bob also draws on his extensive experience managing discovery in complex patent litigations to focus case strategies and direct fact-finding to bolster his clients’ positions, and set their cases up for success.

In addition to managing the day-to-day demands of his cases, Bob has also become a go-to writer, having developed a knack for simplifying and explaining the many complex issues inherent to intellectual property law so that his clients’ chances of success are maximized.  As a result, Bob has been involved in addressing a wide array of substantive and fact-intensive issues including requests for preliminary relief, motions in limine, claim construction (Markman briefing), dispositive and post-trial motions, and an opposition to an appeal before the Federal Circuit.

Technically Minded

Before attending law school, Bob earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University, graduating with high honors.  That training has proven to be invaluable in Bob’s practice, which focuses primarily on patent litigation.  Through the years, Bob has had an opportunity to work on cases involving a wide variety of technologies, including, but not limited to, cellular and voice-over-IP telecommunications systems; smart phones and mobile devices; computer and web server systems; data compression algorithms and systems; liquid crystal displays; antenna measurement systems; biometric scanners; bridal registry systems; miniaturized pressure sensors; electronic thermometers; metallized cutlery; mass-damping systems; sports protective eyewear; and pharmaceuticals.  Bob has even worked on cases involving design patents relating to children’s toys, and a business method patent relating to an estate tax planning technique.  Bob draws on this wealth of past experience as well as his engineering education to become conversant in whatever technologies and subject matter his cases involve, allowing him to efficiently cut to the core issues in each of his matters.

More Than A Patent Litigator

Consistent with the firm’s overall philosophy, Bob’s experience does not begin and end with patent litigation.  Bob has represented clients in trademark infringement, counterfeiting, and unfair competition litigations, and has prosecuted trademark applications as well as an appeal before the Trademark Trial And Appeal Board.  In addition, Bob also has experience handling inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial And Appeal Board, both on behalf of the petitioner and patent owner.

A Respected Professional

In 2014, and again in 2015, Bob was named a “Rising Star” by the New Jersey edition of Super Lawyers in the area of intellectual property litigation.
