Prior to becoming an attorney, Dennis Smid was an engineer for over 12 years with a major aerospace company. During this time, he held various engineering positions from entry level engineer to senior engineer to engineering supervisor and finally program manager where he was responsible for the design and fabrication of a number of navigation systems for use in communication satellites by the Armed Forces of the United States. Even with the demanding work schedule, he made time for his family and continued his formal education and received both a Master Degree in Engineering and a Juris Doctorate Degree.
Dennis has over 25 years of experience as a patent attorney. During this time, Dennis has represented clients in a wide variety of technical fields and across all aspects of intellectual property, including copyright, trademark and patent matters. His clients have included numerous large and small companies including start-ups, as well as solo inventors.
Due to his educational background and extensive engineering experience, Dennis is able to quickly understand nearly any technology. He is also very adept at explaining difficult concepts in a way that clients can easily understand, whether in initial discussions with a client regarding a new matter or keeping a client informed throughout a project.
Early in his legal career, Dennis was involved in several patent litigations. Since then, he has focused his career primarily on patent prosecution and counseling clients on patent opinion matters. During this time, Dennis has personally handled many thousands of patent matters and managed very large portfolios of patents.
