PROFESSIONALS

Ryan L. Bergeron

Multi-faceted

Ryan Bergeron has experience in multiple areas of intellectual property law.  He has procured both utility and design patents in multiple industries including medical and dental devices, semiconductor technology, optical devices, musical instrument components, boat motors, clothing and accessories, in which many of these patents cover products currently on the market.  Ryan has also obtained worldwide trademark protection for clients’ house marks as well as for their individual brands.  On the litigation front, Ryan has used a variety of enforcement strategies to remove infringing products, marketing materials, and offer listings from online marketplaces including auction sites, as well as from the shelves of retail stores.  Ryan has also prepared numerous agreements for various clients including settlement agreements to amicably resolve trademark disputes, as well as product distribution, IP licensing, and nondisclosure agreements.

Field Experience

Prior to his legal career, Ryan worked for years as an engineer in private industry.  He worked as both a design and manufacturing engineer in the development of steering systems and in commercial planning for chassis products for a large automotive supplier in Dearborn, MI.  He later worked for the Department of Defense as a quality engineer focusing on testing and failure analysis of large caliber ammunition.  These experiences enable Ryan to understand client’s product lifecycles and the value of their intellectual property protection relative to customers, partners, and competitors as well as throughout the supply chain.

Big Picture

Ryan Bergeron looks at the big picture of the issue the client needs to resolve, whether it is related to IP procurement or enforcement, licensing of technology, or to the acquisition or sale of IP.  The client’s goals, timing needs, and expectations are flushed out and understood before tackling a project.  Taking these steps early in the process not only increases efficiency, but has often led to modified, alternative, or more efficient approaches that are better suited to the client’s needs.
